When you're placing orders, you may need to take a shipment's size or weight limit into account. Inventory Planner can help streamline your purchasing process by letting you add dimensions to your products.

A product's CBM (volume in cubic meters), net weight, or gross weight information can be entered into the corresponding field in the Replenishment report, or can be imported from a spreadsheet.

Adding dimensions using the Replenishment report

In the Replenishment report, click the gear icon at the top right-hand side of the page.

Search for the "CBM", "net weight", or "gross weight columns", then click the column name to add it to your report.

You will then see fields in the Replenishment report where you can enter the relevant information.

Once you have entered the CBM, net weight or gross weight for your variants, save your changes.

Importing product dimensions

To import your CBM, net weight, or gross weight information to Inventory Planner, prepare a spreadsheet containing the details you'd like to import (i.e either CBM or a weight field, but possibly not both):

  • SKU or other unique identifying information like barcode or ID (required)

  • CBM - the cubic meters per individual unit of the variant

  • Net weight - weight of the individual item without any packaging

  • Gross weight - weight of the individual item including packaging

Each of these columns must have a column title. If they do not have a column title, the first line of data will be ignored during import. You can decide on the exact column name.

In the Replenishment screen, go to Import > Variant settings.

You'll see the available columns listed on the bottom of the import section, or you can download the CSV template and fill that in.

Once your CSV file is prepared and ready, drag the file to the import section, or click the button to upload it.

Once it's been uploaded, click "Map fields" to be taken to a screen where you can check and confirm the columns on the file are linked to the desired fields in Inventory Planner.

Ensure the CBM, net weight and/or gross weight are mapped correctly, then click 'Import' to complete the import.

You will then see an import summary screen that will confirm changes or flag any errors that the system experienced during the import.

Using CBM and weights on purchase orders

Once the CBM or weight values have been entered into Inventory Planner for your variants, you can view them on your purchase orders.

Enabling the columns will display the total CBM or weight based on the quantity being ordered (i.e. ordered quantity ร— CBM, net weight or gross weight).

To scale the total quantity on your purchase order so it doesn't exceed the weight or size limits of a shipping container, click Actions > Scale to total CBM or Scale to total weight.

Enter the total target CBM:

Or total net or gross weight:

Then click "Scale" to update the quantities on your purchase order.

The ordered quantities update and a notification is displayed to inform you there was a change.
