Multi-delivery purchase orders let you manage multiple incoming deliveries under a single purchase order. Each delivery can have its own destination warehouse, expected date, and shipment details despite being associated with a single purchase, helping you manage and track complex purchase orders.

Purchase orders and deliveries

Multi-delivery purchase orders are top-level “master” purchase orders. Each one contains multiple deliveries and controls both the total ordered quantity and the pricing.

Deliveries contain items which are associated with a single master purchase order, but each delivery may have a unique destination warehouse, expected date and shipment details. On receipt, inventory is recorded against the delivery.

When to use multi-delivery purchase orders

Having multiple deliveries against a single purchase order can be useful in many scenarios, such as:

  • Making call-offs against blanket purchase orders

  • Shipping inventory on a single purchase order to multiple locations

  • Accurately tracking expected dates when vendors ship orders in parts

  • Expediting certain items using a faster shipping method

  • Grouping multiple shipments into one order to meet minimum order quantities (MOQs) and bulk discounts

Creating multi-delivery purchase orders

There are two ways to create a multi-delivery purchase order:

  1. Split a purchase order: take a single purchase order and divide it into multiple deliveries

  2. Combine purchase orders: merge multiple purchase orders into a new purchase order, converting each original order into a delivery
